FAQS

What is Scalp Micro-pigmentation?

Scalp Micro-pigmentation is a form of cosmetic tattooing which gives an effective and long lasting solution to hair loss. Organic, coloured, micro particles are carefully tattooed into the scalp skin using a specialised technique which replicates tiny hair follicles at root level, giving the impression of a shaven head of hair. Scalp Micro Pigmentation can treat anywhere on the scalp that is suffering from hair loss – from the front and side hairlines, the top of the head and crown area, over the entire head, and right down to the rear hairline if required. Or it may be used on specific areas i.e. the crown alone where hair thinning is common. It is also effective for men or women with longer hair and can be used to camouflage and blend into the thinning parts of the scalp to disguise hair loss and create the appearance of a thicker, more denser head of hair.

How real will it look?

Scalp Micro-pigmentation disguises hair-loss and can be cleverly merged with any existing hair on the scalp. The technique will follow the client’s natural hair growth direction and the colour choice will be carefully chosen based on the clients skin tone and hair colour. It’s versatile enough for all ages (above 18), skin types and hair colours. Usually, clients do not have to tell friends and family members that they have had the procedure performed, as the detail is extremely fine and intricate, fitting in with their existing hair, so it is generally only the client themselves who will notice the difference.

How long will the treatment take?

The treatment will take between 2-5 hours depending on the size of the treatment area and it is performed in 2 stages. During the first treatment, the colour choice is made and the work begins. For those requiring the restoration of the front, side and/or rear hairlines, the required shape is discussed and then carefully measured and drawn with a white liner pencil in order to ensure accurate placement of pigment during the procedure. We tend to air on the side of caution and adapt a ‘less is more’ approach, when creating the front and side hairlines as we would rather the client return for their free 6 week retouch treatment and then decide whether they would like to further enhance and increase the size of the hairline, rather than create a hairline which is too dramatic during the first treatment.

How will you get the right colour shade?

We offer a ‘Tattoo Tester’ where we tattoo a small section of the scalp (the size of a 20p piece) in order that the client may see exactly how the detail will look when healed. The ‘Tattoo Tester’ and also the first full treatment, is carried out with a colour carefully chosen based on the clients skin tone and hair colour. When healed, the colour is reviewed during the follow up treatment to see how the pigment settled into the skin, and the same colour may be used to further enhance the scalp if the colour healed to a satisfactory result, or if the client feels they would prefer a slightly darker result, we can darken the solution for the free 6 week retouch treatment and the additional work will blend in naturally with the work and detail already present as often, natural hair and follicles have variations of similar colours present.

How do I decide on the style of treatment?

You may wish to show us pictures of your hairline prior to hair loss, or you may wish to look at some pictures of different hairlines to see which is best suited to you. Prior to beginning any treatment, the best pigment colour is chosen to suit your skin and hair colour. The hairline will be carefully measured and drawn and the size/shape of the hairline can be added to on the follow up visits to further strengthen the treated area. Various hairline finishes can be achieved including soft, rounded natural looking hairlines or angled, on-trend hairlines similar to a ‘shape up’ hair style.

Could Scalp Micro-pigmentation damage existing hair?

The speciality formulated product that we use within our clinics, the Scalp Micro-pigmentation technique is developed in Germany and is Organic and is compliant with all EU standards and regulations. The product and technique we use is proven to last in excess of 5 years. Unlike other large SMP companies who use products which can fade on their clients after only 6 months. Our product is designed to last, similar to conventional body tattoos where occasionally detail fades slightly but does not disappear. You may require retouch treatments in years to come, as the colour and detail could start to fade after a few years due to the skin naturally exfoliating over time and also sun exposure and chemicals used in cleansing products and skin care creams which could fade the colour.

Is the treatment safe?

Only sterile, single use, disposable, digital needle cartridges are used for each treatment and single use equipment and machine barriers are used to eliminate the risk of cross contamination. A 24 hour patch test will be given to each client prior to the treatment date in order to check for any allergies.
